1. Who we are
The Service is operated by Zvon LLC, a Texas limited liability company. For privacy questions, requests, or to report content, you can reach us at contact@gemdish.app. Zvon LLC is the entity responsible for the personal information processed through GemDish.
2. Eligibility & age requirements
GemDish is intended for users who are 13 years of age or older. We do not knowingly allow children under 13 to create accounts or provide personal information. During sign-up we collect your date of birth to confirm you meet this minimum age. If we learn that we have collected personal information from a child under 13, we will delete it. See Children's Privacy below.
If you are between 13 and the age of majority in your jurisdiction, you should review this Policy with a parent or guardian.
3. Information we collect
Information you provide to us
- Account information: your email address, username, and password when you register. Passwords are stored in hashed form by our authentication provider and are not visible to us.
- Date of birth: collected at sign-up to verify you meet the minimum age requirement and to apply age-appropriate experiences.
- Profile information: any display name, bio, or profile photo you choose to add.
- Content you create: videos, photos, restaurant reviews, ratings (scored out of ten), captions, comments, bookmarks, and any other content you post.
- Social connections: the accounts you follow and that follow you.
- Messages: direct messages or other communications you send through the Service.
- Reports and safety submissions: when you report content or block another user, we record that action.
- Communications with us: if you email us or join a waitlist, we keep that correspondence and your contact details.
Information collected automatically
- Device and technical information: device type, operating system, app version, and similar technical identifiers needed to deliver and troubleshoot the Service.
- Usage information: how you interact with the app, such as posts viewed, searches run, and features used, so we can operate and improve the Service.
- Location information: with your permission, your device's location, used to show nearby restaurants and relevant content. See Location Information.
- Log data: records generated when you use the Service, including timestamps and basic request information used for security, debugging, and abuse prevention.
Information from third parties
- Restaurant data: we incorporate business information (such as names, addresses, and locations) from mapping and places data providers, including Google Places.
4. How we use your information
We use the information we collect to:
- Create and manage your account and authenticate you;
- Operate core features — the video feed, restaurant pages, ratings, the map, search, and direct messages;
- Personalize your experience, including suggesting restaurants and content based on your activity, location, and preferences;
- Power our AI features, including parsing restaurant menus and answering questions through the in-app food assistant (see Service providers & AI processing);
- Keep the community safe through content moderation, including detecting prohibited content and acting on reports (see Content moderation);
- Verify your age and apply age-appropriate experiences;
- Communicate with you about the Service, including updates and responses to your requests;
- Maintain the security and integrity of the Service, prevent fraud and abuse, and debug problems;
- Comply with legal obligations and enforce our terms.
5. Public nature of your content
Do not post anything you wish to keep private. Information you share publicly can be viewed, copied, saved, or re-shared by others, and may remain visible even after you delete it if others have already interacted with or saved it. Direct messages are not public, but you should still exercise care with what you share.
6. How we share information
We share information in the following circumstances:
- With other users and the public: your public content, username, and profile, as described above.
- With service providers: companies that perform services on our behalf, such as hosting, storage, mapping, and AI processing. See the table in the next section.
- For legal reasons: when we believe disclosure is reasonably necessary to comply with a law, regulation, legal process, or governmental request; to enforce our terms; or to protect the rights, property, or safety of our users, the public, or us.
- In a business transfer: if Zvon LLC is involved in a merger, acquisition, financing, reorganization, or sale of assets, your information may be transferred as part of that transaction. We will notify you of any change in ownership or use of your personal information.
- With your consent: in other cases where you direct or permit us to share your information.
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it for cross-context behavioral advertising.
7. Service providers & AI processing
We rely on a small set of trusted third-party providers to operate GemDish. These providers process information only as needed to perform services for us. Key providers include:
| Provider | Purpose | Data involved |
|---|---|---|
| Supabase | Database, authentication, and backend hosting | Account data, content, usage, and related records |
| Cloudflare (R2 storage & hosting) | Video storage and delivery; website and infrastructure | Uploaded videos and related media; technical request data |
| Google Places | Restaurant and location data | Search queries and location context used to return places |
| Anthropic (Claude API) | AI menu parsing and the in-app food assistant | Menu content and the text of your assistant queries |
| Hugging Face | Automated image safety checks for content moderation | Frames sampled from uploaded media, processed to detect prohibited content |
| Zoho Mail | Email correspondence | Messages you send to our contact address |
When you use AI features, the relevant content (such as a menu image or the text of a question you ask the assistant) is sent to our AI provider to generate a response. We do not use these providers to make automated decisions that produce legal or similarly significant effects about you.
8. Location information
GemDish uses location to show nearby restaurants and surface relevant content. We request access to your device location through your operating system, and you can grant or deny this permission, and change it at any time, through your device settings. If you deny location access, some features (like finding gems near you) may not work as intended. You can also search by area manually rather than using your live location.
9. Camera, photos & video
To let you create posts, GemDish requests access to your camera and/or photo library through your device. We only access media you choose to capture or select. Uploaded photos and videos are stored with our hosting and storage providers and, once posted, are public as described above. Before media is published, it passes through automated safety checks (see below).
10. Content moderation
To keep GemDish safe, content you submit may be reviewed before and after it is published using a combination of automated tools and human review. This includes:
- Automated text checks that screen captions and other text for prohibited content such as slurs and hateful content;
- Automated image safety checks, in which frames from uploaded media are analyzed to detect prohibited content such as explicit imagery;
- A reporting system that lets users flag content, and tools that let users block other users;
- Human review of reported or flagged content.
Content that violates our rules may be held from publication, removed, or result in account action. If you believe content was actioned in error, you can contact us at contact@gemdish.app.
11. Data retention
We retain your information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the Service. We also retain information as necessary to comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes, enforce our agreements, and maintain safety and security. When you delete your account, we delete or de-identify your personal information within a reasonable period, except where retention is required or permitted by law. Note that public content you shared may persist where others have saved or re-shared it.
12. Data security
We take reasonable measures designed to protect your information, including access controls and reliance on reputable infrastructure providers. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, however, and we cannot guarantee absolute security. Please use a strong, unique password and keep your login credentials confidential.
13. Your rights & choices
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to:
- Access the personal information we hold about you;
- Correct inaccurate information;
- Delete your personal information;
- Object to or restrict certain processing;
- Withdraw consent where processing is based on consent (such as location access).
You can exercise many of these directly in the app — editing your profile, managing permissions in your device settings, or deleting your account. For other requests, email contact@gemdish.app and we will respond as required by applicable law. We will not discriminate against you for exercising your rights.
14. Account & content deletion
You can delete individual posts from your profile at any time, and you can delete your entire account. When you delete your account, your profile and personal information are removed or de-identified, subject to the retention exceptions above. Because GemDish is public, content you previously shared may continue to exist where other users have saved, screenshotted, or re-shared it, and we cannot control that downstream use.
15. Children's privacy
GemDish is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you are a parent or guardian and believe your child under 13 has provided us with personal information, please contact us at contact@gemdish.app and we will take steps to delete it. For users who are teenagers, we encourage involvement of a parent or guardian and apply age-appropriate handling of content.
16. U.S. state privacy rights
Residents of certain U.S. states (such as California, and other states with comprehensive privacy laws) may have additional rights regarding their personal information, including the rights to know, access, correct, and delete personal information, and to not be discriminated against for exercising these rights. We do not sell personal information or share it for cross-context behavioral advertising. To exercise applicable rights, contact us at contact@gemdish.app. We may need to verify your identity before fulfilling a request.
17. Changes to this Policy
We may update this Policy from time to time. When we make material changes, we will update the "Last updated" date above and, where appropriate, provide additional notice through the Service. Your continued use of GemDish after changes take effect means you accept the updated Policy.
